BOTOX

What
is Botox?
Botox is a nerve impulse “blocker” that
dramatically softens
- Worry lines
- Frown lines
- Laugh lines
- Crow’s feet
|
How
does Botox work?
Botox is injected into the muscles of the vertical “frown line”
between the eyes, the horizontal “worry lines” on the forehead and
the “crow’s feet” lines at the corner of the eyes. Botox attaches
to nerve endings and prevents the release of chemical transmitters that
activate muscles. These chemicals carry messages from the brain that
cause the muscles to contract; if the message is blocked, the muscle
will not contract. No other facial muscles are effected so expression is
not a problem. There are just fewer worry lines.
What
is the treatment like?
This safe in-house procedure takes 15 minutes. Minimal pain and
discomfort - no anesthetic needed Results are noticable in 2 to 7 days.
Full effect within 1 to 2 weeks. Recheck after 2 to 4 weeks. Small
amounts of additional Botox may be needed if the desired relaxation of
facial muscles is not achieved.
Is
Botox safe?
Botox treatments are considered very safe. Ice packs are placed on the
treated areas which help to minimize stinging during the injections, and
pressure is applied to diminish the possibility of bruising.
Is
Botox a permanent solution?
Unfortunately no, the effects of Botox are temporary. The nerve endings
usually grow new connections to the muscles. Therefore, treatment will
need to be repeated in three to twelve months to maintain the effect. Of
course the patient may choose to just let the effect wear off and return
to the way lines looked prior to treatment.
